Emma is a highly qualified Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon.

Having acquired the initial degree of Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery, Emma went on to qualify as a General Surgeon with special experience in Orthopaedic, Paediatric and Neurosurgery. Her Master in Surgery degree required her rotation through every branch of Surgery and she operated on the brain, heart, lungs, abdominal cavity, bones and joints etc which has stood her in good stead in various Plastic surgical procedures making it possible for her to cope with any eventuality that presented itself unexpectedly throughout her career. Emma is also a Member of the Academy of Medical Sciences in Surgery, a two-part examination similar to her Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons, England and Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh. In addition, she has an Open University Bachelor of Arts degree just for fun and not to do with Surgery!

However, Emma becomes bored quite easily and superspecialities dealing with only one part of the body are not her cup of tea. After a long stint of Orthopaedic Surgery at Senior Registrar level and General Surgery at Consultant level, she decided on Plastic Surgery which deals with all parts of the body and she could be operating at the top of the head one day and the hands and feet or Microsurgery another. So she started at the bottom of the ladder and acquired her training in Plastic Surgery at various sought after Units such as St Andrews, Billericay in Essex, Stoke Mandeville in Buckinghamshire, Royal Preston Hospital, Lancashire, Frenchay in Bristol with illuminating stints in others always on the lookout for the best in techniques.

There was another major reason for her choice of superspeciality, namely, what she fondly refers to as her “Robin Hood”, ie., the funding of her Charity, see www.makinglifecomplete.org . With this in mind, she left the NHS and went purely private so that she could be free to travel abroad yearly to carry out charity operations on the scarred and needy. She was close to Mother Teresa and operates on children from her orphanages along with any others who cannot afford to pay. She still needs to use her own funds which come from her private work in England along with the donations that are gratefully received.

Emma is often asked by people listening to her Talks how she feels about the “vain” people in England who come to her to look better. Emma has no problem with this. She firmly believes it is everyone’s duty to look the best they can so that they can give of their best with no hang-ups or lack of confidence. Also, she says, what bothers people in the West may be different but is in no way less traumatic than what ails those she does her Charity work on in the East.
