Depending on the individual case, this may mean surgery on the upper or lower or both upper and lower lids to remove "bags" and or excess sagging skin. It may be carried out with the laser or with the conventional scalpel. Further, laser resurfacing of the lower eyelid may be required to smooth out and tighten the skin. Using the laser, the lower lid incision is made on the inner aspect of the lid and there is no scar on the outside.

Fine lines which remain can be treated later by using muscle relaxing injection or Restylane - See "Wrinkle Treatment".

Q. How long does the operation take ?

A. Surgery on upper lids alone can be carried out as a day case under either local or general anaesthetic but it is wise to have an overnight stay in hospital when lower lids are treated. The operation takes about an hour or longer to carry out.

Q. Will there be any scarring ?

A. The scar on the upper lid is placed in the normal crease line and usually fades with time.

No two cases are alike and a discussion with the surgeon will bring to light what the best course of action is likely to be.
