The so-called "tummy tuck" is a misnomer, as it implies a minor procedure, which this is not. In well chosen individuals it is a supremely satisfying way to rid oneself of the detested overhang under the belly button caused often by multiple or large pregnancies or after weight loss. Not only is the overhang removed, but weakness in the middle of the abdominal muscles is repaired and strengthened thereby improving the waistline at the same time.

Q. How long does the operation take ?

A. The operation takes approximately two hours.

Q. How long will I be in hospital ?

A. Your stay in hospital will be two nights, you will have two drains to ensure no collection of fluid occurs post operatively.

Q. Is there anything else I should know ?

A. An elastic garment is worn following the operation for up to six weeks. Sometimes, despite the use of drains and a garment, fluid may collect in the operated area. In this case, regular needle aspiration ( which does not hurt because the needle is introduced through the numb scar line) of the fluid by the surgeon will cause the amount collecting to reduce and encourage natural healing until no more collections occur.

All aspects will be discussed in detail at a consultation with the surgeon.
